I just finished reading “The Mystery of the Breath Nimitta” by Bhikkhu Sona. It’s an online article located at http://www.urbandharma.org/udharma/nimitta.html
If you put all the Buddhist doctrinal stuff aside, the article is still extremely revealing on the issue of advanced breath meditation techniques. All branches of yoga teach
you to focus on the point where the air first makes contact with your body (nose, lips, etc.) but this article goes deeper, explaining the meaning of that technique and giving
an undrstanding of it so that you can work with it instead of applying it blindly. It covers meditation with a stuffed nose (which I did not know was possible) and clarifies popular misconceptions about what the hallmarks are of entry into deep states of meditation.
